A New Year

Here’s wishing all the best for 2014 to anyone who has been following this blog.  Yes, improvements continue.  Have occasionally managed 9 hours sleep without the need to get up.  Additionally, the pee-reflex to the sound of flowing water is much reduced and that is certainly a relief.

In this contribution I would like to share details of a recent scare.  We spent Christmas in Prague and while there got a tummy-bug, or so we thought.  As it dragged on and came and went after our return I became more inclined to think that it was a winter virus.   It was not a vomiting virus, much more a rumbling tummy and sometimes rumbling gut virus.  However, there was also something further down.  When I was young it was not unusual as I turned out the light on a cold winter night to sense discomfort just above the pubic bone.  If this happened then I knew that it would be pointless to try to sleep until I had been up for a pee, even if the bladder was almost empty.

Soon after the onset of this virus I sensed discomfort, almost pain above the pubic bone, which came and went, sometimes in-phase, most times out of phase with rumbles elsewhere.  It happened one day when I was out driving and when I got home, with almost no conventional ‘must-pee’ sensation, I unloaded an enormous volume and then the discomfort was gone.  It came at sleep-time on several nights, but as I have recovered from the virus, the frequency has now reduced to nothing.

Exactly two years ago it was  acute pain above the pubic bone that sent me to the doctor.  The fear of recurrence always looms big in the mind, particularly as one is trying to get to sleep.
